Hello Reader, Yesterday I shared how AI decides who to recommend — and why clarity matters more now than it used to. Today I want to give you a simple structure for describing your work clearly. This applies whether you're running a business or building a career. The reason is the same: When people can't repeat what you do, they can't refer you. When systems can't categorize you, they can't recommend you. And when your descriptions don't match across platforms, both people and systems hesitate. Clear messaging isn't about sounding polished. It's about being understood — quickly and accurately. Here's a simple structure: What you do + Who it's for + The result you provide That's it. When these are consistent everywhere you show up, people can repeat what you do accurately. And AI systems can categorize you confidently. Here's an example: Before: "I'm a consultant. I help companies with strategy and operations." After: "I help mid-sized manufacturing companies reduce operational costs by redesigning their supply chain processes." The first one is vague. The second one is clear. A friend could repeat it. An AI system could match it to the right search. Try it now:
Put them together into one sentence. Tomorrow: Where that sentence needs to show up — and what happens when it doesn't. Susan, "S.R." Prater www.seensmallbusiness.com |
