Key Qualities of Effective Leaders

Fresh Apple Cider and Leadership

A friend recently went apple picking for the pure experience of it. They’d relocated from a place too warm for apples to grow since apple trees need cold weather to develop their signature sweetness. Though they had no plans to eat the apples, they just wanted to enjoy the moment of picking them. Lucky for me, I was gifted a half bushel of these freshly picked apples! I used my cold press to make apple cider, which I shared with a work group, making for a memorable and refreshing treat.

Reflecting on the apple-picking experience, I was reminded of how, like growing apples, effective leadership also requires the right conditions and care to develop key qualities. Just as apples need a certain climate, leaders need qualities like empathy, vision, and integrity to thrive.

Leadership development is closely tied to stress management, as it equips individuals with essential skills to navigate high-pressure situations confidently. Fresh Apple Cider Recipe

10-12 medium-sized apples (a mix of sweet and tart varieties works best

)Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apples: Wash the apples thoroughly and cut them into quarters. No need to peel or core them.
  2. Juice the Apples: Using a cold press or juicer, feed the apple quarters through until you have a smooth, raw apple juice.
  3. Strain the Juice (Optional): For a clearer cider, strain the juice through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove pulp.
  4. Heat the Juice: Pour the juice into a large pot and bring it to a simmer over medium heat. Let it cook for about 10-15 minutes to deepen the flavor. Be careful not to let it boil, as this can make it taste too sweet or "cooked."
  5. Serve Warm or Chill: Serve your cider warm, or let it cool to room temperature before refrigerating for a cold, refreshing drink.

Enjoy your homemade apple cider!
